1. Audience Consider your audience. What is an agricultural good supplier interested in knowing? Keep your discussion relevant to your audience. – Audience: agricultural farm supplier – Motives: money, bettering agriculture, environmental conscience, health of workers and surrounding neighborhoods

2. Historical Relevance This would not be the first time a major improvement/change has been proposed to an existing industry or technology. How has this worked out in the past? In what ways is this discussion relevant to the current situation, and in particular, to your audience? – Technology Improvements: Color TV, Weapons, Cars, Cell Phones, Internet, Cotton Gin, Radio, Atomic Weapons – Atomic bomb has changed society: ended global conflict, increases the scale of destruction, increases the scale of conflict – Cars have changed society: quick, allowed establishments farther from necessary resources, increased pollution, allowed DISNEYLAND to be created – Impacts of automated pesticide spraying: requires workers to have a different skill set, decreases number of drivers required

3. Advantages and results When discussing the advantages of the robot approach, your client will not be interested in how fancy or shiny your technology is, only how it will improve results. – Advantages: More effective, quicker, safer, less exposure to harmful pesticides, more cost efficient, nighttime operation, better control over pesticide spray

4. Using your resources You have more than one person on your team. Coordinate your efforts for maximum effectiveness. – Ways to maximize efficiency: equal share of workload, division of tasks, exploit strengths, find a fair solution to disagreements – Set the goals ahead of time; assign responsibilities – Plan your presentation out ahead of time – Arrange meetings to discuss presentation

5. Practice makes perfect Practice your presentation out loud, with your teammate(s) and your PowerPoint or poster. – Prepare notecards to not read off the slide
