9/28/01Colorado-NEES2 Actuator Computer ModelTest Specimen Actuator Shear Wall Actuator Ground Shaking Objectives Develop a reaction-wall type testing system to simulate earthquake response of structures in real time. The system integrates model-based simulation with physical testing using substructuring techniques. The system can be operated via the Internet to allow teleparticipation by remote users and to control tests at other sites with high-rate data exchange. Approach Use of high-performance, high-speed hydraulic actuators and digital control system. Develop efficient and robust computation and control schemes. Develop advanced simulation models. Impact Provide efficient testing capability for evaluation of large-scale structural systems.

9/28/01Colorado-NEES3 Major Equipment  3-channel digital controller and 48-channel data-acquisition system with sampling rates of 1 KHz.  Computer for model-based simulation.  One 220-kip,  6-in. stroke actuator with 250- gpm servo-valve.  Two 110-kip,  5-in. stroke actuators with 180- gpm servo-valves.

9/28/01Colorado-NEES6 Information for SI  Use SCRAMNet to share memory among local PC’s and digital control system for hybrid test simulation. SCRAMNet allows almost instantaneous memory access (1 microsecond).  Use SCRAMNET to share information among different test sites for linked tests via NEESpop. Desired information exchange rate is 1 KHz with 20 channels of data.  Use Ethernet (100Base-TX) for non-time-critical information sharing in the local area network.  Allow remote users to run pretest analysis with a resident program via the Internet.  Allow remote users to set up test parameters and data channels to monitor via the Internet.

9/28/01Colorado-NEES7 Questions for SI  What is NEESpop?  Can NEESpop fulfill the needs described in the previous slide?  What do equipment suppliers and software developers need to know to integrate software, PC’s, and digital control system with the NEESpop?  What type of interface software will be developed by SI for teleparticipation?
