Including Interaction in Cognitive Analysis Nov 6th 2007 Mika Takagi

The two approaches 1.Individual Cognitive Approach Focus on the activities of individuals as they answer questions etc. Informational structures- individuals use cognitive explanations to modify patterns of information. 2.Interactional Approach Focus on the interaction between people, and material/technological systems Participation structures- patterns patterns of interaction in joint activity

Including interaction in cognitive analysis- Study plan Study plan 1: Memory (card game) Goal: to determine how interaction affects performance in memory building Procedure: make 3 groups and compare the results (measurement: time) 1st group- play indiviaually versus computer 2nd group- play with another person against computer 3rd group- play against each other on computer Subject: College students / kids

The tool to use

Hypothesis College students do better than kids Group do better than individual against computer Individual do better against another individual than against computer - how do I measure this one??
