Renewable Energy Assignment Problem Based Learning (PBL) project adapted from PBS NewsHour energy project: Part 1: Short essay Discuss with class, and your family the impacts of rising energy costs This was the key to the project! It developed a personal link to the problem and the students.

Why Care About Energy? “Why don’t we just turn down the heat everyday until everyone complains, and then just turn it up a little”? “My Dad said that I would have to give up my cell phone to save money”.

Were Our Goals Met? Learning without thought is labor lost." -- Confucius Final exam: ALL students answered the questions on renewable energy correctly. The students took the project and made it their own, the questions during presentations were excellent! Key aspect: the discussion in the classroom and at home. Science is part of everyday life!
