Equipment and Set up Computer with: Sound card (all current computers) Speakers (or headphones) Microphone PowerPoint 2002/03 Open and choose Slide Show Click Record Narration
Set up Set microphone level Choose recording quality
Recording quality Default (untitled) is telephone quality The better the quality, the larger your file Telephone is a bit scratchy, CD too much Radio or Advanced (if available) 24 Khz 16 bit mono (46 kb/sec)-this tutorial
Linking vs. Embedding Embedding automatic >100 KB Under 50 MB, either embed or link Over 50 MB, you must link Embedding=larger files, Linking=packaging Remember limits and compression
Linking vs. Embedding Choose Tools > Options > General tab Default link limit = 100 KB Max limit = KB (or 50 MB)
Recording tips Before you click OK: Finish your presentation completely View > Notes pages, Print > Notes pages Practice! Click Ok to record Advance through presentation Click Esc to stop Saving slide timings
Re-recording slides Go to slide and delete sound icon Slide Show > Record narration Choose First Slide or Current Slide Re-record Click Esc to stop
Saving your presentation Embedded: File > Save as.ppt or.pps Linked: File > Package for CD or Pack and Go.ppt or.pps won’t work Choose Copy to Folder Name and save folder Compress
Tips and hints MP3 recorder but no microphone? Record each slide separately Insert > Movies and Sounds > Sound from file Play automatically Move icon Any other sound cancels out narration
