Presentation transcript:

The Creation of the Blender Ben Hill, Kathy King, and Sean McBride Team Gouda HFID Fall 2005

Project Goal: Design a digital music player interface that makes the process of selecting and playing songs as convenient and intuitive as possible.

Personas Juliet (36) Stockbroker Jordan (22) Graphic design student Jamie (18) Liberal arts student John (25) MBA student

Primary persona Juliet (36) Stockbroker Jordan (22) Graphic design student Jamie (18) Liberal arts student John (25) MBA student

Design goals Primary user = Jamie Simple, intuitive interface Easily access all forms of music in one place Ability to make mixes of music Also satisfy the others: Juliet: one-click music-playing John: easily tag songs correctly Jordan: track tastes and hear unusual music

Initial scenarios Listen to a specific album Listen to background music in a random order while working Share music with your friends (give and take music information) Categorize music from scratch

Scenarios Play a single song Play several particular songs Play a blend of music Let the player select songs for you, based on your earlier preferences

Second interactive prototype

Lessons learned What is different enough? Users are used to certain interface paradigms. Need to focus the design space. Making people understand a design that is not fully implemented is a challenge Life is average cases; testing is edge cases

Questions? Ok/Cancel – Just Click It!

Changes for the third interactive prototype Direction of the coming up list “Send selection to” buttons’ appearance and labels Help overlay to get people to understand blender more quickly Implement double click
