Assessment 4 A general term 4 Includes all the information teachers gather in the classroom 4 A process of collecting, synthesizing, and interpreting information to aid in decision making

Test 4 One strategy for assessment 4 A formal, systematic procedure for gathering information 4 Planned measurements by which teachers attempt to create opportunities for students to display their achievement relative to specified goals (Cangelosi, 1990)

Measurement 4 The process of quantifying or assigning a number to performance 4 The process by which facts or data are gathered through empirical observation (Cangelosi, 1990)

Evaluation 4 Using assessment information to make decisions or judgements about pupils, instruction, or classroom climate 4 categorized as either formative or summative

Formative Evaluations 4 Judgements about student achievement that influence a teacher’s lesson plans 4 continuous evaluations that guide what the teacher should do next –Should a lesson be extended or terminated? –Is remediation or more advanced work appropriate? –Is the pace of instruction to fast or too slow? –Should teaching strategies be altered?
