SCOPE OF ACCEPTANCE OF ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORDS AMONG DOCTORS IN INDIA

OBJECTIVES To determine if doctors in India are becoming more receptive to the idea of Electronic Medical Records and conduct factor analysis. To determine if acceptability and opinion regarding EMRs is related to Demographic factors.

Chi Square TEST Results Sex of the respondent or the fact that they have or haven’t studied/ worked abroad does not influence opinion regarding EMRs. Respondents who are below 35 years of age are more receptive to the idea of EMRs.

FACTOR ANALYSIS 13 FACTORS CONSIDERED… Responses recorded on a five point Likert Scale

DISSUADING FACTORS…. Compliance concerns – obtained by clubbing staff discontent, patient non compliance and privacy concerns. Training concerns – obtained by clubbing expensive and time consuming training

DISSUADING FACTORS …. Management concerns – obtained by clubbing low ROI and expensive maintenance Implementation concerns- obtained by clubbing difficult implementation and time consuming implementation.

RESULTS & DISCUSSION The Conundrum 45 out of the 50 respondents agree that EMR adoption can contribute to the brand value of the hospital. Only two respondents stated that they would not consider setting up an EMR system incase cost was not a constraint.

CONCLUSION & RECOMMENDATIONS to introduce induction courses on IT in health care in the MBBS curriculum itself. Awareness programs ensure that a flexible navigation scheme is employed adopting policies on the lines of HIPPA

THANK YOU !!!
