Agilent: The Company, The Myth, The Lengend

Agilent: Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) is a world-wide, diverse technology company focused on expansion into software, chemical analysis, electronics, and life sciences markets. The company operates four businesses -- test and measurement, automated test, semiconductor products, and life sciences and chemical analysis -- all supported by a central research group, Agilent Laboratories. In particular, Agilent provides software designed to facilitate analysis of microarray data. The GeneSpring platform allows the investigator to formulate biologically relevant inferences- via comparative analysis of expression data, genotyping, protein, metabolite and other data types- with higher degrees of confidence.

Agilent: GeneSpring (Features) Unearths correlations between Expression Profiles and Experimental Parameters: Unearths correlations between Expression Profiles and Experimental Parameters: Investigators can devise complex experiments and generate convenient display of data that correlate trends in expression to a wide variety of test parameters. Subsequent analysis can be conveniently refined to test hypotheses by re-computation of previously defined analyses against alternative combinations of samples. In this way, researchers can determine relevant experimental parameters, for genes showing differential expression patterns, to help elucidate causative relationships.

Agilent: GeneSpring (Features) Advanced Statistical Tools: Advanced Statistical Tools: The GeneSpring platform provides a multitude of statistical applications which include t-tests, 2-way ANOVA tests and 1-way post-hoc tests for dependably identifying differentially expressed genes. GeneSpring GX class prediction tools can group gene, identified via expression profiling, by discriminating between one or more experimental parameters or sample phenotypes. Furthermore, gene sets can be further characterized by performing sequence searches for potential regulatory elements.

Agilent: GeneSpring (Features) Data Clustering: GeneSpring GX provides state of the art clustering methods to reveal patterns of gene expression. Data Clustering: GeneSpring GX provides state of the art clustering methods to reveal patterns of gene expression. Researchers can utilize one or a combination of clustering options to typify trends in their data: Self-Organizing Maps (SOM), k-means, gene trees (hierarchical clustering), Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and QT clustering. In particular, Principal Components Analysis (PCA), allows the investigator to lessen the complexity of data by revealing a number of principal components that account for most of the data variability.

Agilent: GeneSpring (Features) 3D Data Visualization: The 3D scatter plot tool offers detailed interactive views of complex data. 3D Data Visualization: The 3D scatter plot tool offers detailed interactive views of complex data. Data quality can be optimized by plotting average expression values for each gene cluster in a scatter plot to reduce noise and rapidly identify patterns in expression data.

Agilent: GeneSpring (Features) Pathway Views: Built-in the GeneSpring platform is the tool called the pathway viewer, in which genes and their expression patterns can be visually differentiated based on their location within a metabolic pathway. Pathway Views: Built-in the GeneSpring platform is the tool called the pathway viewer, in which genes and their expression patterns can be visually differentiated based on their location within a metabolic pathway. Using pathway viewer investigators can predict which genes will be associated with discrete steps in the pathway of interest. Furthermore users can design their own pathway architecture
