MD703 Class 11 Agenda Logistics Chapter 12: Collaboration State Street Bank Case: “A Higher Power” Project Meeting Time

Chapter 12: Review Collaboration does not follow hierarchy –Hierarchy based on likeness –Collaboration based on workflow –Scope of collaborative efforts Project / team management vs hierarchical “Network armies”

Discussion Questions Should an organization’s structure be based on functions (grouping likes together) or services (workflow- based). Select one and defend. If we move to “network army” style fluid, dynamic relationships, what control factors must management replace?

“A Higher Power” Case Discussion (1) Why is IT governance a “scope” discussion? Is IT governance an infrastructure issue? Why did I ask those two questions?

“A Higher Power” Case Discussion(2) What is necessary for good IT/IS decision making? Project Management is at the 4 th ‘tier”. In SSB hierarchy. Why not higher? Why was it necessary that “dismantling old systems” was a strategic goal? Why did the “cross-functional team have decision rights on prioritizing conversions?
