GE Experience Sharing: The Process of GE Change Dr Ron Kwok Department of Information Systems

The major obstacles of GE Change and getting initiatives start are:  “Ego” and “Economic” ( Ego-Economic) Therefore, we need to consider issues and solutions related to “politics” and “process” of GE curriculum change Major Obstacles of GE Change

1.Develop a collective sense of need Surface the fear of consequences of new changes, e.g. accreditation and resource allocation Formation of common needs Establishment trust to overcome risk to try new initiatives Nine GE Curricular Change Processes: Consideration of “politics” issue

2.Organize the process Make sure the change for the task force is clear to others Identity the leadership and clarify the role of the administration Nine GE Curricular Change Processes: Consideration of “politics” issue

3.Develop task force capacity Identity teaching leaders, innovators, cynics, and naysayers (able to work together) Nine GE Curricular Change Processes: Consideration of “politics” issue
