Searching may be done using the Expanded Search option.

The Expanded Search is the second of the three searching tools. It lets you search by multiple authors, titles, and subject terms, and then refine your search by choosing one or more of these operators: Or, And, Not, or Xor (exclusive "or", meaning one term or the other only). It also lets you define limits and lets you sort your search results by specific criteria.

You can also search for items using a wildcard symbol or a truncation symbol. This is useful if you do not know the exact term for which you want to search, or the exact spelling of an author's name or a subject.

The wildcard symbol represents a group of unknown characters in addition to those in your search criteria. You use the asterisk ( * ) for the wildcard. (For example, if you enter "man*" for an Author Keyword search, the catalog displays titles by authors named "Mansen," "Mandell," "Manhattan," and so forth.)

The truncation symbol represents a single character in addition to those in your search criteria. You use the question mark ( ? ) for truncation. (For example, if you enter "man?" for an Author Keyword search, the catalog displays titles by authors named "Man," "Mang," "Mann," "Mans," and so forth.)

Enter your search terms, changing the drop-arrow boxes as needed to fit your research question. Change the limits or sort your results in a variety of ways. You can limit your search to items owned by JCC.

The beginning of your list of results will display. Click on the title link for detailed information about the item and its availability for check-out.

You can review the searches you have done during your session.

If you need to search for an item put on Reserve by your instructor, use this section of the catalog. Choose to search by Course or Instructor’s name.
