Status of DCS for TDAQ racks Y. Ermoline et al. ATLAS TDAQ Week, CERN, 27 April 2005
/8 nWhat will be monitored by DCS inside the racks: n Air temperature ð3 air temperature sensors (NTC 10k), each sensor requires 1 ADC channel and permit measurements from 5°C to >100°C n Relative humidity ð1 humidity sensor (HIH 3610) to monitor the dew point inside the rack, requires 1 ADC channel n Inlet water temperature ð1 temperature sensors (NTC 10k) located on the inlet cooling water pipe, requires 1 ADC channel n Cooler’s fan operation ð3 fan rotation Hall sensors from CIAT (binary and pulse output version available), each sensor requires either 1 bit of digital input port or 1 ADC nIn total - 8 ADC channels per rack n The ADC channel may be also used to readout a binary signal n 64 ADC channels per ELMB – 4 connectors of 16 ADC channels TDAQ racks monitoring by DCS
/8 Sensors location and connection to ELMB nSensors location on the rear door of TDAQ rack n Temperature, Rotation, Humidity n All sensor signals and power lines are routed to a connector on the read door to simplify assembly nFlat cable connects these signals to 1 of 4 ELMB motherboard connectors n 3 connectors receive signals from 3 racks n 1 spare connector for upgrades n1 ELMB may be used for 3 racks Left rack Right rack Middle rack
/8 Test setup and SDX1 installation nForeseen SDX1 installation n DCS PC running PVSS - rack mounted, 4U, 3 PCI slots (minimum) ðKvaser PCIcan-Q (4 ports) card(s) – CANbus branches & PSU ELMB n 6U PSU crate ordered for SDX1 ðWith 3 power modules for up to 6 CANbus branches ðOnly 1 module for Pre-Series n CANbus cable provisionally selected – SCEM (3 pairs) ðConductor – 0.5 mm 2 (20 AWG), OD – 10 mm, linear resistance – 37.5 Ω/km ðMaximum voltage drop: 2.0 V for 20 ELMBs on 50m cable (acceptable) ð90 Ω impedance – tested with 100 m cable ðStill looking for 120 Ω cable: Belden 3108A (3 pairs) – expencive (7.20 CHF/m) Elettronica Conduttori MMCNTH/452EC-2 (4 pairs) – used by TileCal n 2 ELMBs in 6 Pre-Series racks on DIN rail – SCEM: ðOn the rear door or rear of the rack ðSingle CANbus connector – need a daisy-chain implementation
/8 ELMB CANbus daisy-chain implementation nPermanent installation with “thin” CANbus cable nModified Phoenix SUBCON-PLUS-CAN connector Cable tray CANbus cables To next rack Socket (38 €) Cable fixation To PSU
/8 CANbus cables layout in SDX1 nRacks: n Level 1: racks n Level 2: racks nCANbus cables: n 1 CANbus branch per row n ~200 m of CANbus cable n1 ELMB per 3 racks: n 32 ELMBs on 6 branches ðMax cable length ~25 m nFor comparison - 1 ELMB per rack: n 92 ELMBs on 6 branches ð30% cost increase Pre-Series racks
/8 Component and system cost (1 ELMB / 3 racks)
/8 Component and system cost (1 ELMB / rack)
/8 Further steps nDCS PC, PSU and ELMB installation in SDX1 Pre-Series racks n Temporary solutions until final component delivery ðPower supply, daisy-chain connector nChoice of sensors and wires n Temperature ðOffer for the NTC with 6m halogen free cable: 29 CHF/pc (100 pieces) n Humidity - TBD nELMB adapters design for humidity and rotation sensors n Humidity sensors need power nMechanical arrangement of sensors in the rack n Sensor’s fixation, connection to the ELMB
