Welcome Students!

Storyline The people of Earth have destroyed the ozone layer! Now the Earth is heating very rapidly and it will soon be uninhabitable! As a group, you have been selected to seek out the legendary Planet X! Each group represents the crew of one of the spaceships journeying as a fleet to Planet X.

Your Mission: Select the resources necessary to transport your crews safely to Planet X. No-one knows what you might encounter along the way…

Stayin’ Alive Humans are like computers In order to function and stay alive, they require input and output. On earth, everything we need to survive is already here...in space, one has to provide everything one needs to survive. Who can name some things that humans need to survive?

What Keeps a Human Alive? Food Water Heat O 2 miscellaneous chatter Waste CO 2 Heat

Food, Diet, and Exercise! It is very important to eat healthy and exercise in space to prevent bone loss

Space Food! Astronauts eat special food that is very light weight

Entertainment Since astronauts live in a very small area with a few other crewmates, it is very important that they stay well entertained and happy!

Repairing and Building It is very difficult to work on your ship because you have to wear bulky gloves and other bulky equipment!

Sources of Power Solar Wind Water Battery

Breathing in Space Since the air is so thin in space, you have to bring your own oxygen!

Playing the Game! Your journey will last 10 years, or 10 turns Your goal is to safely transport everyone aboard your space shuttle to Planet X

There are many supplies available for you to take in your journey:  Food  Water  Entertainment  Repair  Seeds  Medicine

Oxygen and Power Both Oxygen and Power will be infinite to your crews. However, if they get broken, infected, or do not work you will need to Repair them immediately!

Entertainment Don’t forget to bring entertainment. If your group decides not to bring entertainment you could run into some risky situations! Each turn, an entertainment piece will be collected. If your crew doesn’t have entertainment, you will be forced to draw a risk card!

Space Credits! Each crew will be given the amount of Space Credits indicated on your game sheet. These will be used to trade with the astronauts living in the space stations! There will be three stops along your journey where you may purchase or sell items to the astronauts! They may also be used to bargain with other crews.

Food and Water Food and Water are essential to survive your journey! One piece of Food and Water will be collected each turn!

Seeds 1 Seed can produce 2 Foods after 2 turns. There is a place on your game sheet to help you keep track of your Seeds’ growth. + 2 Turns =

Planning! Now, with your group, plan out how much of each item you would like to take with you. You will pull a scenario card each year, or turn. Keep in mind that if you lose something due to the scenario card, and you do not have that item to lose, you must bargain with other ships. Otherwise, your journey could end!

Turn 1 Turn in 1 Food and 1 Water If you do not turn in an Entertainment piece, you must draw a risk card.

Turn 2 Turn in 1 Food and 1 Water If you do not turn in an Entertainment piece, you must draw a risk card. Your fleet of shuttles has come across a prosperous planet. Each crew gains 2 Foods, 1 Seed, and 1 Repair.

Turn 3 Turn in 1 Food and 1 Water If you do not turn in an Entertainment piece, you must draw a risk card. You’re crews have reached the first Astronaut Store! Here are their prices: –Food, 2 Credits –Water, 2 Credits –Seed, 1 Credit –Medicine, 1 Credit –Entertainment, 1 Credit –Repair, 1 Credit The Astronauts will also buy your supplies; they will pay 1 Credit for each supply.

Turn 4 Turn in 1 Food and 1 Water If you do not turn in an Entertainment piece, you must draw a risk card. Unfortunately, your fleet of ships has come across a cluster of asteroids and your shuttles have sustained damage. You each need to use 1 Repair.

Turn 5 Turn in 1 Food and 1 Water If you do not turn in an Entertainment piece, you must draw a risk card. You’re halfway there!

Turn 6 Turn in 1 Food and 1 Water If you do not turn in an Entertainment piece, you must draw a risk card. You’re crews have reached the first Astronaut Store! Here are their prices: –Food, 3 Credits –Water, 3 Credits –Seed, 2 Credits –Medicine, 2 Credits –Entertainment, 2 Credits –Repair, 2 Credits The Astronauts will also buy your supplies; they will pay 2 Credits for Food and Water, and only 1 Credit for Seeds, Medicine, Entertainment, and Repair.

Turn 7 Turn in 1 Food and 1 Water If you do not turn in an Entertainment piece, you must draw a risk card.

Turn 8 Turn in 1 Food and 1 Water If you do not turn in an Entertainment piece, you must draw a risk card. The fleet of ships found a meteor with frozen ice on the surface. You melt some of the ice and each gain 2 Waters.

Turn 9 Turn in 1 Food and 1 Water If you do not turn in an Entertainment piece you must draw a risk card.

Turn 10 Turn in 1 Food and 1 Water If you do not turn in an Entertainment piece, you must draw a risk card. Just make it through this turn!

Since you have found Planet X, the people of Earth are saved!
