Presentation transcript:

Cardiff International Airport is the only large and international airport in Wales, offering links domestically and to European and North American destinations, located some 12 miles (19 km) south-west of Cardiff city centre, in the Vale of Glamorgan. Since May 2007 Highland Airways, a Scottish Company, has run internal flights between Anglesey (Valley) and Cardiff.

 Wales has a distinctive culture including its own language, customs, holidays and music.  Wales is primarily represented by the symbol of the red Welsh Dragon, but other national emblems include the leek and daffodil. The Welsh words for leeks (cennin) and daffodils (cennin Pedr, lit. "(Saint) Peter's Leeks") are closely related and it is likely that one of the symbols came to be used due to a misunderstanding for the other one, though it is less clear which came first.  In June 2008, Wales made history by becoming the first nation in the world to be awarded Fairtrade Status.

 Parts of Wales have been heavily industrialised since the 18th century and the early Industrial Revolution. Coal, copper, iro n, silver, lead, and gold have been extensively mined in Wales, and slate has been quarried. By the second half of the 19th century, mining and metallu ry had come to dominate the Welsh economy, transforming the landscape and society in the industrial districts of south and north-east Wales.

 Highest maximum temperature: 35.2 °C (95.4 °F) at Hawarden Bridge, Flintshire on 2 August  Lowest minimum temperature: °C (-10 °F) at Rhayader, Radnorshire on 21 January  Maximum number of hours of sunshine in a month: hours at Dale Fort, Pembrokeshire in July  Minimum number of hours of sunshine in a month: 2.7 hours at Llwynon, Brecknockshire in January  Maximum rainfall in a day (0900 UTC UTC): 211 mm (8.30 inches) at Rhondda, Glamorgan, on 11 November  See also: List of towns in Wales

F L A G Flag of Wales is the image of a red dragon on a white and green background. The legislation passed in 1959, although the red dragon was the symbol of Wales since the dawn (from the popular belief, Roman) times. In the Middle Ages (with the Tudor dynasty), white and green colors are also associated with Wales. This is the only one of the flags of the United Kingdom, not included in its flag, which caused some criticism.

Emblem Emblem Coat of arms of Wales - the emblem used by the Prince of Wales. In contrast to the emblem of England and the emblem of Scotland in the past was not very popular in Wales, but eventually used more and more. Before the conquest of Wales by the British fragmented kingdoms of Wales used different symbols.

European capital - in 1955, however - one of the oldest settlements in Western Europe and England.

 Cardiff remembers the Romans, Vikings, Normans and other invaders.  The industrial revolution also left its mark here, mainly in the architecture.  Until the Second World War the city was the leading port - supplier of coal.

 Today 300,000 people live here who are able to work, who appreciate art and I adore sport (Cardiff - one of the recognized centers of rugby).

Languages The Welsh Language Act 1993 and the Government of Wales Act 1998 provide that the Welsh and English language s be treated on a basis of equality. However, even English has only de facto official status in the UK (see Languages of the United Kingdom) and this has led political groups like Plaid Cymru to question whether such legislation is sufficient to ensure the survival of the Welsh language.

 Cardiff Bay. This is a new area, and there are more and more tourists.

 2000 years ago the Romans built a building, wanting to make Cardiff a naval base and trading center.  In the XI century. Normans used the wall for his fortress. Then the lock repeatedly passed from hand to hand, but in the XVIII century. it becomes the property of a family of Bute.  Currently in the dining room are arranged medieval feast.

 Departments of botany, zoology, geology, archeology, art, a rich collection of works of art.

 Llandaff Cathedral. Built XII - XIII centuries. Currently, the Cathedral hosts concerts of classical music.
