Griffith Health Carolyn Gardiner Admissions Officer/ GUESTS Coordinator Griffith University Early Start to Tertiary Studies program ‘GUESTS’

Admissions The GUESTS program commenced in February 2000 and was offered in response to the growing number of high achieving students looking to stretch their academic boundaries and enhance their Year 12 experience. The program provides the opportunity to year 12 students to sample university life by studying a single course* at Griffith University whilst simultaneously completing their senior studies. * Law students must undertake 3 courses (20CP) over one semester.

Why GUESTS? Admissions The benefits of undertaking the GUESTS program include:  the opportunity to sample the degree you are considering  working with students from a range of backgrounds in an academically encouraging environment  receiving academic credit for your GUESTS course if subsequently accepted into the related Griffith degree program  no fees for your GUESTS course, subsequently reducing the cost of your degree  recognition of your GUESTS study on the Queensland Certificate of Education  Guaranteed entry into a Griffith undergraduate degree program*  1 bonus rank towards entry into other degree programs * Exceptions or specific requirements may apply

Who is eligible? Admissions GUESTS is available to OP or ATAR eligible students from any school, or Queensland Academy IB students, who are achieving at VHA and HA (A,B) level. Students must be undertaking the applicable prerequisite(s) for the degree program from which their GUESTS course is taken. Applicants require the support from their school and parents/carers. A Year 12 Student taking on GUESTS in addition to a full time Year 12 study load is a HUGE commitment. GUESTS is NOT designed to replace the OP as a pathway to Tertiary Study.

GUESTS Support Admissions GUESTS student’s are enrolled as a Griffith Student and are able to access Griffith services and support such as: enrolment support through the GUESTS Coordinator GUESTS support through individual contact links to vital information Griffith account access to security staff provide safe passage to carparks Student Support Services; welfare, counselling and disability support access to academic writing, computer and library research skills workshops and training sessions through the Learning Services Unit

What can GUESTS Study? Admissions GUESTS students can choose from most first year UNDERGRADUATE courses. For Guaranteed entry into areas such as Education, Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Midwifery and Queensland College of Art programs, require the GUESTS student to undertake specific courses. Please see the Required Courses section for further details and quotas. Other sections include specific details on Music, Medicine and Oral Health, Languages, Bachelor of Contemporary Australian Indigenous Art and External Offerings. If students are interested in courses that are not listed in these sections, may refer to our Popular Courses section.

Completed GUESTS ‘Guaranteed Offers of Entry’ Admissions GUESTS who successfully complete their course with a Grade of Pass or better are eligible to apply for a ‘Guaranteed Offer of Entry' to an Undergraduate Degree program at Griffith University for commencement the following year*. Guaranteed entry to some highly-competitive programs may depend on the grade achieved in the GUESTS course. Some examples include Physiotherapy, Design, Midwifery, Nutrition and Dietetics. Once students receive a Guaranteed Offer of Entry, it is unconditional and their place in that program is firm. However, students MUST still meet any required prerequisite(s) for the program. Guaranteed Offers of Entry are ‘activated’ via the QTAC/UAC application process. Therefore students DO need to apply through QTAC or UAC. * Some Degree programs are exempt from GUESTS. See the website for further details.

GUESTS and the QCE Admissions GUESTS enrolment and grades are recorded on the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). 2 credits of Advanced study – it does not count towards the calculation of an OP. reported to QSA after the census date (end of Week 4). a student withdraws from your course after this date it will still be recorded on their QCE with a grade of Withdrawn. a second report is provided to QSA after results are released. GUESTS students must contact the GUESTS Coordinator if they decide to withdraw from the program to ensure that they are reported correctly.
