What I learned in Comp25 I learned about the ASCII chart, bits and bytesI learned about the ASCII chart, bits and bytes Computer hardware such as: hard drive, motherboard, RAM, all the internal parts of a computer.Computer hardware such as: hard drive, motherboard, RAM, all the internal parts of a computer. Various ports such as USB, firewaire and modemVarious ports such as USB, firewaire and modem Ways of upgrading your computer, like increasing the RAM, or hard drive capacityWays of upgrading your computer, like increasing the RAM, or hard drive capacity What operating systems are, like windows XP or Mac OSWhat operating systems are, like windows XP or Mac OS How to format a disk and how they are divided into sector, clusters, and tracksHow to format a disk and how they are divided into sector, clusters, and tracks How files are managed, into drives, folders and filesHow files are managed, into drives, folders and files What a protocol is such as httpWhat a protocol is such as http The types of networks there are such as peer to peer, client server, and internetThe types of networks there are such as peer to peer, client server, and internet Learned how our network here at pacific is set up and how it worksLearned how our network here at pacific is set up and how it works There are various types of security for a computer, like passwords, firewalls, and smartcardsThere are various types of security for a computer, like passwords, firewalls, and smartcards It is better to change your password frequently, and use one with various numbers and letters that is at least 8 characters long.It is better to change your password frequently, and use one with various numbers and letters that is at least 8 characters long.

More I learned in Comp 25 I also learned about the history of the internet The uses of hyper text markup language HTML That web pages can be used for many things like personal, or business Learned various tags such as Bold and underline The basic format used to set up a web page How to create links, tables using HTML file transfer protocol uses three ways to send/receive a file: command line, web browser, special software How IP addresses distinguish computers on a network and use 4, 8 bit numbers Learned the various parts that make up an URL such as: protocol, host, domain, directory, and filename That domain names are easier to use and remember than IP addresses

Even more I learned!!! CSS-cascading style sheets, define how a website should appear, are easier because they create the same look for many different pages within a site How to create CSS syntax, and how it differs from HTML How to use javascript and Java, add sound, resize photos The basics of how to use excel and create a spreadsheet I already knew, but in this section I learned some new, more complex formulas to use, and how to do conditional formatting How to create charts based upon your data and how to modify them How to create and view comments, and why they’re useful How to work between sheets in excel and make references Microsoft Access is a program I’ve never used before, so that was all new to me. I learned how to create a form, and about the various parts of the form

More… How to change the font/color/resize my form How to use conditional formatting How to filter/sort/find Learned how to set the key, create a lookup, set field types/parameters How to create a report, and that it can be used to analyze data How to maneuver within the options of the report wizard How to create a query, which is essentially a question you ask the database How to add tables to my query and add fields by viewing the relationship How to run my query and return to design mode How to sort and filter my query using the criteria row How to group by: sum, average etc. That a switchboard is a simple menu to access forms, reports etc. How to create a switchboard and add pages to it How to use Visual basic to enhance my project

How Comp 25 could be improved Spend more time on Microsoft Access, it seemed a little rushed, maybe start it earlier in the semester. Take apart a CPU in front of the class, so they can see how everything goes together and fits in, instead of just laying pieces out on the table For the webpage project, explain more how the webdocs folder works, or have the students set it up.
