17/05/2010 John Doran1 Salford University Review of Terms and Conditions and Consideration of Potential Harmonisation Issues

17/05/2010 John Doran2 Salford University Review of terms and conditions and consideration of potential harmonisation issues What is this review about and why are doing it? The review is about fully understanding where the terms and conditions differences are, priorities for change, and determining what changes are practicable in terms of affordability and business/employee impact The review recognises internal concerns about terms and conditions inconsistencies both in terms of what is applied and how it is applied The review also recognises that, whist we would consider all issues, we would prioritise the review of terms and conditions issues in relation to differences at the same grade level within the appropriate employee grouping Who will be involved in this review? We recognise the importance of involving all key stakeholders particularly in relation to helping us to properly understand what the priorities for change are – we will get views from business leaders/managers, from trade unions, and from employees In terms of formally discussing any potential changes, we will progress this through trade union representatives

17/05/2010 John Doran3 Salford University Review of terms and conditions and consideration of potential harmonisation issues Will this review of terms and conditions actually lead to harmonisation? Clearly, at this stage, it is too early to forecast outcomes – the important things to highlight are: -Any harmonisation proposals will need to be cost neutral and harmonisation considerations can be both up and down -Any harmonisation proposals will need to support improvement of business delivery and customer service -Whilst there is no restriction on issues being proposed by our stake holders, priority consideration will be given to those identified terms and conditions issues at the same grade level within the appropriate employee grouping How will you communicate Progress? We intend to do this through regular updates to business managers, regular meetings with trade union representatives, and e mail updates to all employees John Doran, is the Project Leader – Harmonisation and is now undertaking the data discovery/collection phase. Please let John know if you have any views on what the priority issues should be

17/05/2010 John Doran4 Salford University Review of terms and conditions and consideration of potential harmonisation issues When will we know the outcome of the terms and conditions review? Work has commenced and the preliminary high level timetable looks like this: Business and Trade Union “heads up” of project commencement BY Discovery/Data Collection Phase BY Analysis Phase BY Consultation Begins BY Stakeholder Management and Communication As this is an initial work plan, the milestone delivery dates may be subject to change and in this event we will include this in our ongoing communications Feedback/input from business managers, trade Union representatives, and employees
