Why does the WDC support learning in practice through the Placement Learning Unit?

WDC commitment to developing learning in practice Developing learning in practice opportunities (a shared responsibility: WDC, service, education) Enhancing the quality of educational experiences (a shared responsibility) Practice, experience, belonging, recruitment The reflective practitioner – the importance of effective role models Education > educators > learning culture > service improvement (i.e. educating the educators improves service)

WDC rationale for supporting learning in practice To enable clinical staff to deliver effective, safe, modern, evidence-based care Partnership between education and service, to mutual benefit Enabling students to have experiences which enhance learning and increase commitment Opening up student horizons Develop capacity for learning in practice (a potential barrier to increasing numbers)

WDC priorities for PLU Enhanced standards of mentorship, supervision, assessment > enhanced learning Develop multi-professional focus (AHP’s, links to PMS, multi-professional mentorship) Increase capacity through a broad range of providers (shared responsibility for education) Actively promote patient, carer and student input to the development of healthcare education and training
