Bible Reading Romans 6:1-14 (p )
Romans 6:1-14 Dead to Sin, Alive in Christ 1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning, so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptised into Christ Jesus were baptised into his death?
Romans 6: We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. 5 If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.
Romans 6: For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.
Romans 6: For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. 11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Romans 6: Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; …
Romans 6:1-14 …and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. 14 For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.

Prayer of Confession: From 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 PEOPLE: Forgive us when we use and abuse one another, and when we misuse the good-gifts of God through our sins and faults. MINISTER: We each know from our own experience what it is to fail you, but we praise you for your gospel, which says to your people:
Prayer of Confession: From 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 ALL: “And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified…,
Prayer of Confession: From 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 ALL: …you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and by the Spirit of our God.” All praise to you. Amen.

Scripture Song: Romans 6:1-11 What shall we say? How shall we live? since through his word revealed he calls on us to die with him, deep in his tomb concealed.
Scripture Song: Romans 6:1-11 Is there no hope? Is there no joy? Yes! Bursting from the grave, baptised in him we rise to life freed by his power to save.
Scripture Song: Romans 6:1-11 One in his death, one in his life, in baptism restored, we trust his promise, know his power and serve our mighty Lord. 4/4
Sermon Romans 6:3-4 Live a New Life: Baptised into Christ
Or don't you know that all of us who were baptised into Christ Jesus were baptised into his death?
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
Does it matter how we choose to live? If salvation is a GIFT of God’s grace, does SIN matter? (See Romans 5:20, 6:1) Does God’s Gospel lead to CHANGE? Sin is a contradiction of who we are (6:2). It matters who you are!
1 – Christians are United to Jesus Christ Jesus is the ‘change-agent.’ His identity is merged with the identity of his people. Can you say; “Christ’s PAST has become MY PAST?” or “Christ’s FUTURE has become MY FUTURE.”
2 – Baptism Identifies a Christian with Jesus Christ 3-7: How does a rich man become rich? But you could marry a rich man… He could adopt you, or put you in his will. You have become “rich” by believing in Jesus; Baptism just acts as a sign of believing and belonging to Jesus; being identified with Him!
I’ve got good news, and bad news…
3 – Baptism Identifies a Christian with the Cross There has been a DEATH. You can't die twice (9-10). Enslavement to Sin is OVER; it’s past. Verse 5: A Christian’s great claim. Matthew 19:28, “I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne…” The FUTURE is Christ’s, and ours in Him!
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
Sin is NOT O.K. God has a challenge for us: in verses Lord: transform us, make your home in our hearts.
