BERLIN 2012 Welcome to the History and Languages Visit to Berlin Introductory talk. This is a very exciting time as this is the first time we’ve offered a visit to Berlin. The 4 day visit is designed to support your child’s GCSE studies, both linguistically and historically, as well as a chance to experience another language and culture. The visit will run every two years and will run alternately with our Ethics and Philosophy visit to Rome. I hope you find this evening valuable and I will answer as many questions as I can at the end. Berlin...

BERLIN 2012 DAY ONE – Tuesday 3 rd Aril Depart Woodlands School. We’re off! Coach transfer to E. Midlands Airport Depart EMA (Ryanair or Easyjet) E.T.A. Berlin Schonefeld Airport Visit to The Brandenburg Gate. During our transfer from Schonefeld Airport to the Hotel Ibis we will travel through central Berlin, across Pottsdam Square with its traces of BerlinWall, past the enormous Holocaust Memorial to arrive at the Brandenburg Gate - the focal point of the celebrations at the fall of the Berlin Wall E.T.A. Hotel Ibis. Check in & allocate room keys Dinner at the ‘Der Ulte Fritz’ Restaurant Hotel Ibis SLEEP!

BERLIN 2012 DAY TWO – Wednesday 4 th April Breakfast Sightseeing Coach Tour of Berlin Part 1 Includes: Reichstag Building, Pottsdam Square, remains of the Berlin Wall, Soviet War Memorial, a view of the former entrance to Hitler's bunker and the former Gestapo Headquarters Visit to The Berlin Jewish Museum. The Berlin Jewish Museum was designed by Daniel Libeskind Lunch at the Jewish Museum Visit to The Checkpoint Charlie Museum. Checkpoint Charlie is the lookout point where American & Russian tanks faced each other across a narrow section of No Man's Land.

BERLIN Visit to The KaiserWilhelm Memorial Church. A new church was built in 1961, next to the ruins. Inside there is a moving depiction of the Madonna and Child drawn by a German doctor shortly before Christmas 1942 at the seige of Stalingrad. There is also a memorial to the men and women who lost their lives in the July 1944 plot to overthrow Hitler Shopping in the Kurfurstendamm Shopping Area Time to get shopping! Berlin style Dinner at a restaurant in the Kurfursendamn Return to the hotel SLEEP! DAY TWO continued

BERLIN 2012 DAY THREE – Thursday 5 th April Breakfast and then leave to go to Oranienburg E.T.A. Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. An emotional visit includes a film in one of the barrack blocks, the Tour Director will give an explanation of the camp as well as providing maps & instructions to get the most out of the visit Lunch in Potsdam Visit to TheWannsee Villa. It was here on January 20th 1942 Reinhard Heydrich introduced ‘the Final Solution’. Today the villa is a place of remembrance with a photograph exhibition outlining the consequences of the meeting that took place in this idyllic location Dinner at Sudstern Brewery Restaurant in Berlin Return to the hotel in time to go bowling SLEEP!

BERLIN 2012 DAY FOUR – Friday 6 th April Breakfast & loading of suitcases onto coach Sightseeing Coach Tour of Berlin Part The Allied Museum Looks at life in the Cold War and Germany’s history between 1945 and The Reichstag One of Germany’s most iconic buildings which destroyed by a suspicious fire in 1933 is now home to its parliament (the Bundestag) again. One not to miss Coach transfer to Berlin Schonefeld Airport E.T.A. Berlin Schonefeld Airport. Commence check in Depart Berlin Schonefeld Airport E.T.A.
