TUD MedVis Overview

TUD MedVis Overview 1 associate prof., 1 assistant prof., 5 PhD students, 6 M.Sc. students. Medical Visualisation application areas focused on: medical research (neuro, longitudinal, molecular) diagnosis and treatment planning Cooperating with academic hospitals in NL, Philips Medical Systems, TU/e

Diffusion Tensor Imaging Able to image neuronal fibre bundles in the brain Full-brain tracking yields over-complex visualisations

Diffusion Tensor Imaging Our approach: real-time selection – 3 million fibres / s Reproducible, fast and intuitive

DTI + function MRI (fMRI) Test application: tumor resection with fMRI and DTI Queries and feedback: distance to tumor, bundles by activation area, etc.

Multi-Field Medical Visualisation Multiple measurements over the same domain Examples: inherently multi-modality (PET-CT), registered data (multi-timepoint) 1. Comparative visualisation in clinical studies:

Multi-Field Medical Visualisation Quantification-driven visualisation 2. Integrating SciVis and Infovis techniques:

Planning and guidance for orthopaedic surgery Shoulder replacement is hard Results in loosening and revision!

Planning and guidance for orthopaedic surgery Situation improved with Computer Assisted Surgery techniques. Our prototype:

Polyp detection in Virtual Colonoscopy Detection of polyps in VC

Polyp detection in Virtual Colonoscopy Apply vector field visualisation techniques! Maximum curvature directionMinimum curvature direction

Polyp detection in Virtual Colonoscopy Surface constrained streamlines: extra features for classifation of true positive polyps.

Molecular Imaging Bioluminescence imaging + CT and MRI Genetically modified mice Tracking cancerous cell clusters over time
