What Is The Problem DOT is loosing baby boomer professionals due to retirement and with them their knowledge. DOT is decentralizing expert knowledge to it’s 8 districts in the last 5 years (streamlining). Scoping process is not uniform among DOT districts. DOT leadership intend to improve scoping process to reduce the gap between scoped project cost and 3 to 5 years later awarded contract costs.
Why It Is Important To Implement The Newly Standardized Scoping Process Implementation of a standardized scoping process will allow any new hired Engineer a shorter learning curve. The implemented scoping process will help in projects Estimating. Scoping process will help the company to better define final project’s cost.
Who Benefits Better defined project costs due to better scoping will help to spread the DOT funds among greater number of highway projects benefiting Minnesota travelers with better roads.
What Are The ISE Themes Management of infrastructure funds. –Improvement of Infrastructure maintenance due to smarter usage of funds in better scoped projects. –Improvement of new-construction funds distribution due to better scoped projects. –The company will have an implemented process used across 8 districts allowing greater exchange of resources.
What Is This Capstone About? I will be proposing a step by step approach to implement the Scoping Process in DOT District 6.
