Country discription: Hungary Territory: km 2 Population: persons

Sociodemographic characteristics: Number of live births and deaths Year Live births Deaths

Health status: Foetal losses and induced abortions provesure meanage of men:67ys, and women:72ys Year Foetal losses Induced abortions

Socioeconomic situation It is a developing country, main amount of the GDP comes from the fields Some comes from industrial work Tax of the alcohol consumtion, which was 10,1 l per person in the last year, counting in clear alcohol

Political structure Public society Leading by a president of the country, the prime minister and the Parlament The leaders are selected by the people

Jurisdictional responsibilities for alcohol policy For the suggestion of the Health Minister there was created the Public Health Program (now it is called after a grate PH Physician – Johan Béla) included the alcohol use disorders, in The special subprogram was worked out by the National Institute of Alcohology. As for the alcohol harm down program until this time didn’t get any financial or moral support.

Production of alcoholic beverages Alcohol productions are bear, wine and ‘palinka’ Alcohol Trade: we have import from all the type of alcoholic beverages and we have some export from especialy wine beverages To involve the alcohol industries into the alcohol related sectors is at the beginning in our country, we have begun the conversation in two session, in May, and in September Revenues from alcohol taxation: 0 In the last 10 years has begun the trend to make some consumer expenditure on alcohol beverages

Consumtion of alcohol beverages Per capita consumption has broked down in a small percentage in the last 5 years by beers and spirits. The wine consumption shows some developing due to the quality types. The illicit unrecorded consumtion had to develope, because the all amount of theconsumtion didn’t decrease anything Thank to the international trends (and for our PR work) the low risk drinking patterns shows some developing, the hazardous and harmful alcohol consumption are not so popular than earlier The intoxicated behaviour mainly remain during the homeless people, and the dependent people comes more and more to therapical centers (It is less then it was, when the therapy was forced by the rules) The consumption patterns shows differencies during to the age, ethnic and socioeconomic states. Young people drinks more mixed alcoholic drinks

Health problems related to alcohol use Global burden of desease estimated: all the fifth adult man and all the tenth adult women drinks in a risky way The death rates coming from the alcohol use disorders are about the 18-30% of all the cases Estimated comorbidity with mental problems: 1. First is the mental problem, and second is the alcohol use disorder in about 20% of the cases 2. First is the alcohol use disorder and second is the mental health problem in the 10-12% of low risk drinkers, by the harmful use drinkers higher, about 25%, and by the dependent drinkers it is much higher: about 40%

Social problems related to alcohol use Estimated alcohol and child and family violence – in every fifth family there is a great problem, because of the fact, that every fifth adult men are risky drinker 1. Risky drinker father or mother 2. Lack of the father or mother because of the risky drinking

Economic problems related to alcohol use It is a very difficult question because: Because one person the whole family The whole department Lifestyle and life prevalencion could brake down, and the next generation are not able to create anything coming from an alcoholic family

Alcohol policies and programmes In Hungary the price of the quality drinkings are high, these products have high taxes The uncontrolled products are on low prices, and they in some cases very dangeres for health There is not any regulating in phisical availability of alcohol For now we can see some trends to develope the level of the pubs, change into restaurations September there was a big conference about the safty driving

Cont. Alcohol Policy and programmes Alcohol data collection and research Because of the international trend and the countrial PR the self regulation of drinking is better for now Health promotion and education srategies: The Hungarian Public health Program (Johan Béla, ) conteins the alcohol policy, but we haven’t got any support to realise this We invited in 2000 November Michel Fleming and his coworkers, and they educated us for the NIAAA program, until this we educated about 100 G. P. for the brief intervention pogram We try to built in the The National Institute of Addictology collects the datas of patients, searches for the effective programs with the G.P-s As for the researc work: we have begun the evidence based experiments in the university towns in Hungary
