Presentation transcript:

And the apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith." So the Lord said, "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you. And which of you, having a servant plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, 'Come at once and sit down to eat'? But will he not rather say to him, 'Prepare something for my supper, and gird yourself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward you will eat and drink'? Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, 'We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.' "

Luke 17:5... “And the apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith."

Luke 17:6... “So the Lord said, "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you”.

Luke 17:6... “Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you”

Luke 17:7... “And which of you, having a servant plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, 'Come at once and sit down to eat”?

Luke 17:8... “But will he not rather say to him, 'Prepare something for my supper, and gird yourself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward you will eat and drink'?

The only thing that Jesus is trying to present to us, is the master’s attitude towards the servant.

Luke 17:9... “Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not”. Is Jesus saying that we should not thank those who help us do work?

Luke 17:10... “So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, 'We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.' "

1. This parable removes from our heads the idea of us earning our salvation.

It doesn’t matter what we do, we are always going to be debtors to God and not him to us.

No preacher or Christian can ever be so proud. Walking in the palace like Nebuchadnezzar did, proud of what he had built, and what had he built?... Nothing! Daniel. 2: Unprofitable

God is not our debtor…We owe everything to him…Many Christians feel the opposite way, They feel that God owes something to them...

Jesus understood. John 4:32; John 9:4. Do we understand the purpose for what we have been called for? We were called to Serve!!!

Many are the preachers who want God to thank them for some of the work they have done, even though they were told to do it.

And the apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith."

No matter what we do, we should always say… " 'So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, 'We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.' "
