Presentation transcript:

It tells me that the Japanese Occupation had brutality. This is because the Japanese soldier is beheading the Australian soldier, and beheading is brutal way of executing people. It tells me that the Japanese humiliated their enemies. This is because the Australian soldier is made to kneel before the Japanese soldier before being executed. This implies that the Japanese were superior and the westerners were inferior and thus, the humiliation.

It tells me that the Japanese held public execution. This is because the execution was done in the open and there is an audience of Japanese soldiers in the background.

The sources differ in their account of the during the Japanese Occupation. In source B, it shows that situation in Singapore during the Occupation was satisfactory. This is because the source states that ‘Conditions were soon back to pre-war times’ and that there was a ‘continuation of the electric light and water services’.

Source C, however, states that people lacked of basic necessities. In the source it states that ‘our water taps ran dry’. This implies that there was a lack of water.

The sources differ in their account of how people lived during the Japanese Occupation. In source B, it shows that people lived happy lives. In the source it states that ‘a smiling’ city and that the people were ‘free as equal members of a New Order’. This implies that the people lived a happy life as there was freedom and equality. Source C, on the other hand, shows that the people lived a life of misery and fear. In the source it states that ‘more important was the need to conserve human lives’ and ‘the civilian population was the main target of the Japanese’. This implies that people led miserable lives because they would be killed or tortured by the Japanese.

The purpose of the sources differ. Source B is to convince the people of Singapore that their lives are better so that they would support the Japanese leaders. This is because the source states that the ‘New Order’ ‘offers freedom and equal opportunities to all’. On the other hand, Source C aims to explain life during the Occupation so that the readers would have a clear understanding of the situation.
