The P&G community consists of over 138,000 employees working in over 80 countries worldwide. What began as a small, family-operated soap and candle company now provides products and services of superior quality and value to consumers in over 180 countries.

Our company has one of the largest and strongest portfolios of trusted brands, including Pampers, Tide, Always, Pantene, Bounty, Folgers, Pringles, Charmin, Downy, Iams, Crest, and Olay.

Ensure our products, packaging and operations are safe for our employees, consumers and the environment. Reduce, or prevent, the environmental impact of our products and packaging in their design, manufacture, distribution, use and disposal whenever possible. We develop and use state-of-the-art science and product life cycle assessment, from raw materials through disposal, to assess environmental quality.

P&G was first to bring innovations such as: Concentrated products Refill packages Recycled plastic bottles Since 1990, we have: Reduced packaging per case by 27 percent Achieved a 37 percent reduction in waste, air, and water emissions from manufacturing plants Spent $13 million annually for environmental protection, including our full-time staff of 50 people dedicated to environmental aims

P&G is responsible for emitting 350,000 pounds of toxic chemicals into the air annually. Our company is 14 th in the rankings of largest US corporations by profit, but is only the 52 nd largest corporate producer of polluted air.

Manganese makes up 31.2% of our company’s output. Sulfuric Acid is the main component of acid rain and makes up 28.93% of our company’s output. Epichlorohydrin is carcinogenic and makes up 20% of emissions.

Our largest factory is in Mehoopany, PA, where we produce paper products including Brawny, Pampers, and Charmin. In 1996 alone, P&G spent $23.5 million to improve environmental operating costs at this factory. Overall site air emissions have been reduced by 80% since initial start-up. This site withdraws roughly 12 million gallons per day from the Susquehanna River, and returns over 90% of this back to the river after treatment. The remaining 10% is released as steam.

Eleven companies are teaming up in an attempt to work with suppliers in order to curb greenhouse gas emissions in what is known as the Supply Chain Leadership Collaboration, launched in October The venture is being coordinated by the Carbon Disclosure Project, a British nonprofit organization that helps companies and investors to cooperate in the battle against climate change.

For the first phase, which ended March 2008, each company participating in the program selected 50 suppliers to work with. The Carbon Disclosure Project will publish a report after the first phase, recommending a standardized approach to emissions cuts. A second phase, starting this month, will include up to 2,000 suppliers associated with each participating company.

Other SCLC members are Dell, Hewlett Packard, L’Oreal, PepsiCo, and Reckitt Benckiser, Cadbury Schweppes, Nestlé, Procter & Gamble, Tesco, Imperial Tobacco, and Unilever.
