Solid Wastes & Hazardous Materials Landfills dumped with mixed household wastes. Products containing corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients. –Harmful incineration. –Harms natural resources. –Pollutes air. –Pose threat to people and environment.

Management and Sustainment Plan 3 R’s –Reduction –Reuse –Recycle Public education Provision of necessary waste disposal facilities. Law enforcement.

Challenges on the Plan Large amount of solid wastes produced daily. Getting the community to reduce, reuse and recycle. People’s resistance to change. Funding needs.

Plans in Coordination with Government Develop and implement environmental education programs in collaboration with the government. Develop public education and information strategy on source reduction, reuse, and recycling. Implement an integrated solid waste management strategy. Implement recycling management and coordination. Help government to generate necessary funding and resources.

Concluding Thoughts Solid wastes and hazardous materials have lots of harmful effects. Management may not be easy but gaining community cooperation is the most important thing to do. The success of sustainment plan greatly lies on the hands of the people with due help and guidance from the government and the concerned individuals.
