Jesus The Head of the Church Isaiah 9:6, 7

Knowledge of Church Government is Essential The church is a body, a household, a kingdom—all require proper organization and respect for authority. Christ is the Head of the Church (Col. 1:18). We must have proper respect for His authority and Pattern.

Jesus: The “Chief Shepherd” “and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will received the crown of glory that does not fade away” (1 Pet. 5:4) Greek: archipoimen arche (chief, first place) + poimen (shepherd, pastor) cf. Eph. 4:11; Lk. 2:8

Jesus the Chief Shepherd The Shepherd of the sheep (John 10:2) The good Shepherd (John 10:14) One Shepherd for One flock (John 10:16). The Lord Jesus is that One Great Shepherd (Heb. 13:20)

Jesus: “Possessor of all Authority” “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth’” Matthew 28:18 what is the claim? who gave this authority? (see 1 Corinthians 15:24-28) How much legislative authority does that leave elders and preachers?

Jesus: Possessor of All Authority “And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church” (Eph. 1:22 → 1 Peter 3:22) “but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— from whom the whole body, joined and knit together...” (Eph. 4:15,16) “For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is the head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body” (Eph. 5:23)

Seeking Jesus’ Authority Today God Speaks through the Son (Heb. 1:1-2), who speaks from heaven (Heb. 12:25). All of Jesus words revealed through the apostles; words He spoke while on earth (John 14:25-26) and words He spoke from heaven (John 16:12-15). The written word is the word of God (1 Cor. 14:37). Through the Scriptures we have the complete pattern (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:3).

Christ has the Preeminence Church Christ High Priest (Heb. 3:1) Royal Priesthood (1 Pet. 2:9) King (1 Tim. 6:15) Chief Cornerstone (Eph. 2:20) Flock of God (1 Pet. 5:2) Chief Shepherd (1 Pet. 5:4) Body (1 Cor. 12:27) Head (Col. 1:18) Kingdom (Jn. 3:5; Matt. 16:18f) House of God (1 Tim. 3:15)

Conclusion More Lessons to come God, Christ, and the kingdom. Always refer back to this pattern. If we want our home to be in heaven, we must hold fast to the pattern of church work and government which originated in heaven. Do you which to be a member of Christ’s one church?
