2 What are Trans-European networks – (TENs) ? How have TENs developed? Current situation and progress. What is the future likely to bring. Conclusions.

3 How have the TENs Developed? Origin in the mid 1990s. Nothing in the Common-Transport Policy on Infrastructure until reference added in Maastricht in Objectives were to improve transport and spur economic development.

8 Origins of TENs Guidelines –defined the scope and the form of assistance. Networks very extensive –difficult to see the European ‘interest’ of some parts. With such a wide network the impact of Community support is much diluted ‘ pepper potting’. Budget did not accord with expectations. Priority projects (14.).
