ILTHE Members’ Forums Autumn 2003

What’s happening with the ILTHE and the HE Academy  Members voted overwhelmingly (94.7%)for the ILTHE to merge with LTSN to form the Academy in October  HESDA now largely to be incorporated within the Leadership Foundation  NCT activities to be incorporated into the Academy

What impact will this have on members?  Merging to form the Academy will provide increased opportunities and enhanced services for practitioners  Plans for the Academy establishment are progressing well  We have been assured that ILTHE services should continue to be delivered to Members at least until August 2004

Business as usual  A full programme for ILTHE Members Forums is under way  Publications (Journal, Newsletter and books) are continuing to be produced on target  A new round of Small Grant Awards has just been made  200 proposals have been received for the Annual Conference 2004 being held at the University of Hertfordshire. Book online at

Accreditation Arrangements The Academy will recognise all the ILTHE’s previously accredited programmes and collaborative accreditation agreements, until such time as an overall review of professional standards takes place. When the Academy opens its register of accredited practitioners, initially, only paid-up ILTHE members in good standing will be transferred automatically to the register

Professional Standards  Professional standards will remain in the hands of practitioners, via the Academy’s Council  The Council will have a majority of elected registered practitioners  Practitioners will play a key role in the Academy’s working groups and committees

What we know about the HE Academy  Will be based in York  CEO to be appointed in January 2004  Staff complement to be at least equivalent to current ILTHE and LTSN staffing levels  Activities will be more diverse and comprehensive than those currently offered by partners

Work of the Academy will include support for  Centres of Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETLs)  National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS)  Fund for the Development of Learning and Teaching (FDLT)

ILTHE Activities and HE Academy  ILTHE invited to lead on HE Academy-related work – External Examiners and White Paper  White Paper objectives – national professional standards, CETLS, CPD for experienced staff, NTFS expansion  Commitment to embrace the inclusivity agenda as advocated by ILTHE  LIS staff to continue to be represented within HE teaching and learning agenda

ILTHE CPD Project  Consultation held spring 2003 on implementation and embedding of CPD  Recommendations to work with HEIs, PSBs and regional members forums  CPD working group (comprising ILTHE members and PSB reps) reviewing Jan-Aug 04 work  CILIP included on working group

What about LIS Community?  Continuing inclusive agenda – all staff supporting student learning  ILTHE Officers working with CILIP – CPD, membership benefits, events, publications  Equal professional status for all who support HE learning and teaching activities (eg. NTFS, Membership ILTHE, Academy Registration)

Staying involved: Please continue to  Volunteer to host and to present at Forums  Submit material for publication  Be an active member  Encourage your colleagues to join  Watch the website for updates

Renewals and Payments  Renew now and get benefits for at least a full year  Nobody paying the ILTHE fee now will be disadvantaged in the Academy  Payment by telephone by credit or debit card helps us

Any Questions  Ask now  to  Phone “The Academy’s success will depend on people wanting to engage. If they do, it will work” Dr Caroline Bucklow, Acting CEO
