The Eyes of a Child Tamecia Jones ED 229C LDT Seminar 28 Jan 04

The goal of this experience was to watch a young child interact with a digital camera and try to take pictures.

Subject Statistics Age:3 Height:41inches Weight: 44 lbs. Technology Use: Low

Photo Gallery

45 pictures later… Subject looks through the screen instead of the viewfinder. Subject holds the camera completely away from her body for finding image and taking the picture. Initial desired image may not be image captured because of camera delay and subject movement before taking the picture. (Lots of blurring, half shots) Holds camera on a downwards angle. Flash provides important feedback. Buttons on HP812 are too close together and too small. Scrolling feature on camera is a hit. Power button and shutter button are often confused when taking a picture Height plays a large factor in the visual field. Motivation with technology holds attention enough for three rounds of photography.

Design Considerations Big buttons Space between buttons Single mode functionality Non-retracting lens Regular batteries Balance mechanism Lots of feedback
