Other Appropriate Problems The word processor can be an effective tool for presenting information in all grade levels and most content areas. Here are some sample projects for students in early elementary school. Monthly newsletter documenting content area learning and school events Holiday letters to friends and family “What I learned” statements, reports-- This could be a follow up assignment to any discovery lesson/activity Show and tell narratives, including pictures and text Writing roulette activities in which student groups are responsible for writing and contributing pieces to a shared work How else might early elementary students use a word processor? © Building Bridges with Technology, 2001 Boise State University
Guiding Student Research Once the children understand the project, they learn to ask questions that will help them complete the project. In addition to being familiar with the program interface, students also had to possess or learn the following technology skills to create their project: © Building Bridges with Technology, 2001 Boise State University Home row position for keyboarding Editing skills (backspacing, deleting, arrow keys) Using Microsoft Publisher: Creating text boxes (as well as resizing and moving) Using WordArt Inserting Pictures Creating borders Storyboarding Importing graphics from another directory Saving to home directory Printing Using the Internet for research (both writing URL’s and using Search feature)
