Traffic Light Hold Ups An Adventure Down the Berlin Turnpike A Project for DSES-6620 Simulation Modeling Analysis Presented By: Jim Henriques December 2000

OUTLINE Introduction to Problem Statement Requirements System Design Tests Performed Results Conclusions Questions

Problem Statement The purpose of this project was to locate the optimal speed to travel down the Berlin Turnpike.

Requirements Two sets of data required Distances Between Traffic Lights Cycles of the Traffic Lights during the morning commute Working knowledge of simulation package ProModel

System Design Locations Lights Roads Entities Car Processing Arrivals

Test Performed Two different tests performed 1st:Sent 1 car through system at different times 2nd: Sent 1 car into system every minute for 2 hours

Results Test 1: The faster one went, resulted in faster time Utilization was not as good at the faster speeds Test 2: Results similar to Test 1, Utilization was not as good overall

Conclusion System successfully modeled Results reflect actual times Future Work
