What did we do? Created a science curriculum that includes language instruction and provides science background knowledge Currently teaching the course (adapting curriculum as needed) Invite SMC students to observe and participate in the classroom

Results A new science course was created at BHS SMC students participating in teaching content to ELLs

What we Learned Better understanding of importance of background knowledge How do I incorporate differentiated learning to a diverse set of students? – Disappearing water concept

Next Steps Is this a sustainable class from year to year? – Student ability dependent How can current BHS science teachers be aware of ELL needs?
