Habitat Is Where the Heart Is

What are some things we might want to learn about an animal? What does it eat? How long does it live? How many are there in an area? How does it taste? Where does it live? – An animal’s home is its habitat

Habitat When we think of “home” we think indoors Unlike our homes, an animal’s habitat is outdoors and includes: – Food source – Water source – Shelter – Space

How do we find out what habitat an animal uses? Direct observation Listening – bird calls Evidence of animals – dens, tracks, scats Electrofishing Radio telemetry

Today we’re going to study the habitat use of animals in your local ecosystem We have 2 OBJECTIVES: 1. Find where the animals are with: – Aerial telemetry – Tracking on the ground (looking for foot prints) 2. Record habitat descriptions for each animal
