Political Culture Traditionalistic VA, TN, NC Traditionalistic/Individualistic KY

Hypothesis State wealth –H1a. States with more college graduates have higher incomes –H1b- States with fewer racial minorities have higher incomes –H1c- States with more high tech industry have higher incomes Crime Policies –H2a. Traditionalistic states more likely to have death penalty; higher incarceration rates –H2b. Poorer states more likely to have death penalty, higher incarceration rates

H1a. Better Educated States Have More High Tech Economies

Crime Control Policies VA, TN, NC, KY are traditionalistic –all have death penalty –All but NC have higher incarceration rates than national average –All but NC ranked in bottom half of states (KY 29, TN 32, VA 36)
