REFLECTIONS: CREATION STORY 1.What stories have been taught to you about the creation of humans? 2.What are some other ideas about the origins of humans?

Theory: A concept that is not yet verified but that if true would explain certain facts or phenomena. A well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world. S0 HOW DOES SCIENCE EXPLAIN THE ORIGINS OF HUMAN LIFE?

Evolution: A gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually more complex or better form.

HOW WILL YOU ADAPT? You and your ancestors have always lived in a cool, shady, forested area with lots of rainfall, and plenty of fruits and vegetables on which to feed. Over time, however, your forest starts to disappear and becomes replaced by grassland with trees widely spaced apart. The climate also becomes much hotter and drier. What will you and your community have to do in order to survive in this new environment? BY THE WAY, THIS IS A VERY,VERY, VERY LONG TIME AGO!!

ADAPTATION: The process in which a species or organism becomes better suited to its habitat. BIPEDAL: The ability to stand and walk on two feet. Ardipithecus ramidus ARDI 4.4 MILLION YEARS AGO

Who was LUCY? AUSTRALOPITHECUS AFARENSIS

Would a Paleontologist find this funny!?

What major physical and behavioral adaptations led to the survival and development of early hominid communities?

Homo Habilis (Handy Man)

Homo Erectus (Upright Man)

Homo Sapiens Neanderthalensis (Neanderthals )

Homo Sapiens Sapiens (Wise man) Why did this hominid species survive, while the others disappeared?

Classroom Cave Think of an image that you would like to draw related to your Paleolithic existence. Choose three colors to work with. Crumple up your construction paper. Use the tape to put the paper under your desk. Move your desk to a space in the classroom. When the cave is darkened you may begin your artwork.

The tree ends with us, but why?
