The Field of Play Revision Early Inspection is essential – 45 mins before kickoff Look for correct markings and appurtenances Safety a priority If problems, so long as safety is not compromised, play match if at all possible, but report to competition

Weather Considerations Will ground stand up to more rain Will icy conditions thaw if kickoff delayed Enough visibility in foggy conditions – need to see whole length of field Snow (effect on lines) Delays dependant on competition rules

Inspection of Goals Posts must be white and can be square, rectangular / round or elliptical Posts / crossbar must be same width as lines Nets are not compulsory, but check competition rules Check nets are pegged to ground and posts / crossbar but give sufficient room for goalkeeper

Summary Are the markings correct Goals / goalnets / flagposts OK Surface not dangerous Weather Conditions OK Sort problems before match if possible Play match if not too great a problem Report defects to competition
