NGAO System Design Phase System & Functional Requirements Documents NGAO Meeting #6 Peter Wizinowich April 25, 2007

2 System Requirements Document Living document (4 versions during System Design phase) –Intended to guide design –Avoids specific design or implementation solutions Science requirements –Science Performance requirements Includes assumptions about seeing & telescope environment –Science Instrument requirements –Shows flowdown from Science Case Requirements Document Observatory requirements Requirements by discipline –Optical, mechanical, electronics/electrical, safety, software, interface, reliability, spares, service & maintenance, documentation –Should show flowdown from Science & Observatory requirements Separate “Instrumentation Baseline Document” –More generic set of requirements applicable to all Keck instruments –These are not repeated in the SRD

3 Functional Requirements Document Living document (4 versions during System Design phase) –Intended to guide design –Provides source for compliance matrix against which design & delivered systems will be tested –Makes assumptions about specific design or implementation choices Divided up by major subsystems –Requirements for all subsystems section –Major subsystems: AO system, laser facility, science operations, telescope facility, deployable IFU, imager/spectrograph, IFU –Same breakdown as for SRD under each subsystem Optical, mechanical, electronics, etc. Flow down from SRD to subsystems (& major components) should be shown
