What is a Program Selection Report?  Submitted to and approved by Assistance League National Philanthropic Program Consultant  Overview of Program including  Reason for Adoption  Financial Support  Budget Administration

Operation School Bell Programs  Backpacks  Clothing  Emergency Kits  Dictionaries  Literacy  Emergency Response Team

Backpacks  Distributed to elementary students K-5  Includes necessary supplies  Program is completed in September

 Began with 50 backpacks  Increased to 1800 backpacks in  Decreased to 1100 backpacks

Backpacks - Duplication  Other organizations supplying backpacks:  Costco  Boeing  School on Wheels  Many Mansions  Catholic Charities  St. Jude’s Church  Church of the Latter Day Saints  No other organization provides the number or the consistency of our program  All schools contacted want backpacks

Emergency Kits  Contains clothing/supplies for school nurse to distribute as needed  For children who fall or have an accident  Started fiscal year  Between schools receive Kits  No duplication  Needed and appreciated

Clothing  Provide new clothing/shoes for children in need in elementary schools  No duplication  Changed to meet needs of children and fit with mission statement to increase self-esteem in those we serve

Clothing  Began with 167 packets  Yearly increase to 800–900 packets  Program can be increased to meet needs

Dictionaries Program  Started with 140 dictionaries  Serves 2 schools – Park Oaks & Conejo  Distributed to 3rd graders  Hardbound copies kept in classroom  Elks & Rotary provide some dictionaries but not the same quality

Literacy Program  Started with 75 students  Increased to 100 students for past two years  Volunteers read with children assigned by teacher  Recipient reported that progress was seen in children

Emergency Response Team  Set up to handle one-time emergencies in our communities  Used during the Moorpark fires

Other Philanthropic Programs  Assault Survivor Kits  What If I’m Home Alone?  Screening Eyes Early (SEE)  Share A Bear  Transitional Living Care (TLC)

Assault Survivor Kits  Started in with 20 kits  Community requested program  Provide supplies requested by Safe Harbor  Support for those victims of crime

Share A Bear  Delivered 297 CASEY bears in  Increased to 1000 bears the following year  Over 1500 bears now to hospitals, urgent care centers, fire and sheriff stations  Not duplicated  Good public relations within community  Can be increased to more facilities

What If I’m Home Alone?  Began  Objective:  2400 children per year & 20 volunteer members  750 3rd grade students served this year  Not duplicated

Screening Eyes Early  Screening preschoolers for eye problems (e.g., colorblindness and lazy eye)  Lazy eye early detection is crucial, but rarely found.  Some duplication, but not the same  Eyes screened in kindergarten

Screening Eyes Early  295 preschool children 2001  832 screened 2002  181 this year  Objective:  1500 children per year & 32 trained volunteers

Transitional Living Care (TLC)  Serves foster-care young adults ages  Approximately 15 teens per year  Seminars to prepare for independent living  Provides household items

Transitional Living Care (TLC)  Program not duplicated  Appreciated by recipients  ALCV honored at event by Interface  Provides community recognition

Philanthropic Programs Reserve  Funds set aside to increase current programs  Serve additional children  Special needs  Scholarships
