Hello Parents! Welcome to the classroom! On your way in if you could please pick up a Senteo Parent Guide Hand Out on the desk. Elizabeth Malone Fall 2009 Note Sheet PDFPDF

What is a Senteo? Senteo’s were created by SMART technologies. They are interactive response systems that allow the teacher to get immediate responses from their students. Senteo’s are compatible with SMART boards and you can incorporate a test or quiz right into the lesson to track the students knowledge of a topic. The Senteo is a remote that wirelessly connects to the teachers computer. The technology is very easy and simple for the students to use through the prompts on the remote screen. The Senteo’s allow teachers to ask multiple choice questions A-J and True False questions.

Student’s will be assessed with the Senteos at a minimum of once a week. There will be tests and quizzes through the Senteos. For example, the students will have their weekly vocabulary quizzes on the Senteos. The students will have multiple choice questions based on the vocabulary work and the definitions. The students may have unit tests with the Senteos as well. For example, they may have a social studies test with the Senteos they will be a mix of true/false questions, multiple choice, and then they will be paired with a written portion to the test. The students will also be assessed on a daily basis using the Senteos. When the students learn new material or need to review old material then they will be asked one or two questions so I can track their progress. How children use Senteos in the classroom

Senteo’s are a great way for the teacher to see the student’s progress within the classroom. They give immediate responses to both the teacher’s and the student’s. Once a student finishes a test or quiz they will immediately be given their grade and told which questions they got right and which ones they got wrong. It is also beneficial for the students because they it is more engaging that filling out a worksheet. It is beneficial for the teacher’s because they can get each students grade sent right to their computer. It brings it up in a pie chart and shows which students got which questions wrong. If it is just a daily quiz this is a great way to see what topics need to be talked about more. The Benefits of Using Senteos in the Classroom

How to grade? As previously stated the Senteo’s are a wireless remote that picks up radio frequencies. All of the frequencies are picked up from a receiver. Each remote is registered to the teacher’s software. Once the student signs up for a class through the remote prompts all of their answers will automatically be sent to the teachers computer. The program then sorts all of the students answers and produces a graph that tells the teacher who got which question right and who got it wrong. The remotes can also be set to anonymous so no one knows any other students answers. The software also saves each students answers so that the teacher has easy access to the students grades. They also compile the grades into lists for easy access.
