The Moon By: Bridget Burke

What is the Moon? The moon is the Earth’s only Satellite. It takes the moon about a month (28 days) to revolve around the Earth. The moon has no atmosphere and is similar in size to the Earth.

What is the Moon’s Surface Made of? The moon’s surface is like an old paved road with potholes, an uneven surface, and faded spots. The moon’s surface is made of: Mountains Valleys Craters (holes made from space objects hitting the surface) Volcano sites

Quiz Break! The moon has valleys, craters, an atmosphere, and mountains. TrueFalse

Remember… the Moon? The moon is the Earth’s only Satellite. It takes the moon about a month (28 days) to revolve around the Earth. The moon has no atmosphere and is similar in size to the Earth.

What are Moon Phases? The different shapes we see of the moon are called the phases of the moon. The actual shape of the moon is not changing, just the light shining on the moon.

The Phases of the Moon The moon has 8 phases that look like these:

This chart shows how the moon moves around the Earth and the different phases it creates. The pictures of each moon phase is how the moon looks to us on Earth but not how the moon is actually shaped.

Quiz Break! Which of the following is not a moon phase? A. New moon B. Waning Crescent C. Waxing Crescent D. New Crescent
