Passport Rental System To hire equipment you will need your valid student card. The equipment can only be hired for the time advised by the technicians. You are responsible for the equipment and are liable for the bill if you damage it. Before any film equipment can be hired out you must have had training on it for health and safety issues. If equipment sustains damage while in your care, please tell a technician.

Learning Outcomes for Module Video Camera Basics (the Canon XL1 mini-DV camera; including shutter, aperture and depth of field) Photographic Composition for Video An introduction to non-linear video editing (Media 100) Digital Camera Technology and support equipment Media 100 iFinish V4 (Professional non-linear editing) Digital VTRs (Mini-DV) Computer hardware and file systems for video editors.

Assessment There is one assessment every two weeks. These will enable you to: –Develop an individual portfolio of work. –The best piece from each small group will go towards a bi-weekly group portfolio. –Each portfolio will be marked off to show the work has been completed. –Each report must be 5 pages maximum

Assessment The group will judge each others’ work each assessment week and give their opinion on the quality and clarity. A member of staff will then grade the group portfolio. This mark will stand for the all the group. Individual portfolios will be looked at randomly to ensure all students are completing the work. Each group will judge whose work is the best and a copy of that work should be printed off and placed in special group portfolio. Groups will also participate with tutors in peer assessment of each others’ work. At the end of the semester each group will present one master portfolio of their work and a single tape containing the practical assignment.

Assessment All students must complete an individual portfolio of work. If they do not they will fail the module.

Assessment Weightings Group Project (60%) Individual (40%) –Made up of 4 written assessments and one practical assessment, all peer marked by group with a score of 0 to 10 for each piece of work. –If a group think two pieces of work deserve are equal they can both score a maximum 10 points but only one can go in the portfolio.

Final Assessment Grade The portfolio is marked out of 100 and then converted to 60%. The peer assessment makes up the other 40% of the total score. This total mark is then calculated into the University scoring system of grades N.B This is a 30 credit module.

EXPLICIT CONTENT It is University policy that the inclusion of unnecessarily explicit violence, sex or illegal activities both in scriptwriting and filmmaking are prohibited. Creative freedom is actively encouraged but within the published University policy. As an Academic Institution, an extremely high standard of content and creativity is expected. If in doubt take official academic advice. Students consistently ignoring this policy can expect to be subject to disciplinary action, which could result in exclusion from the university.

You are entirely responsible for work submitted. Ensure that you: –Label your tapes –Check the recording on your tape (sound and vision) prior to submittal –Hand your work in on time: check closing times with the school office before the deadline
