Issues associated with homelessness.  Physical Health Factors  Malnutrition  Pneumonia  Drug and alcohol abuse  Foot problems  Tuberculosis  HIV/Aids  Hypothermia  Mental Health Factors  Depression  Schizophrenia  Past history of abuse  Anxiety  Drug and alcohol abuse  Feelings of inferiority  Fear

Social and societal issues  Unemployment  Prejudice and stereotyping  Housing problems  Problems claiming benefits  Breaking the law e.g. begging

Finding out about David  Initial input should be….  Short and regular  Aimed at building trust and self esteem.  Allow David to make simple choices.  Information could be obtained from…….  Police and social services.  Next of Kin, family and friends.  Community psychiatric services.  General Practitioner.

Issues that are important to David  Reason for becoming homeless.  Loss of roles.  Financial problems and problems with benefits.  Loss of contact with family and friends.  Confusion and lack of comprehension of what is going on.  Feelings of fear and loss of independence.

Goals for the future.  Short Term Goals  Deal with Head injury and foot problems.  Improve general health and nutrition.  Find Housing.  Mental State examination.  Longer Term Goals  Promote independence  Sort out permanent housing and benefits.  Look at employment, leisure activities and social integration.  Allow continued access to support.
