How Market Prices Are Determined Interaction of Demand and Supply If the price is too high, the quantity supplied exceeds the quantity demanded, resulting in a surplus. If the price is too low, the quantity demanded exceeds the quantity supplied, resulting in a shortage. The price at which the quantity supplied is equal to quantity demanded is the equilibrium price.
