D.L. Atkinson, ME Agenda Week 13 Global Engineering Professional Seminar Today: International Experience for MEs— short courses, internships, comprehensive programs and academic programs. Please take any assignments remaining in row folder—also study Abroad hand-out for today.  Note: One more week for Supplemental Seminars—last day is April 18. Portfolios returned April 24.

D.L. Atkinson, ME “GEARE Junior Year” GEARE Junior Year is new for Spring sign-ups will be circulating—apply by May 9. Addresses the top three ME student concerns about study abroad: 1.Cost: Program is cost neutral—costs same as West Lafayette semester--air fare is included. 2.Time: Program fits into regular Purdue semester calendar, no additional time to graduation, schedule fits co-op rotation. 3.Friends: Take your friends with you!

D.L. Atkinson, ME A professional investment: Stay competitive—international experience used to be the exception, but a revolution is underway, e.g, RPI, majority of engineers to graduate with international experience. 15 engineering credits (sixth semester) courses in English. Top ranked program in China: ME School at SJTU is ranked #1 in China/ a world-wide credential, located in Shanghai, Pearl of the Orient.

D.L. Atkinson, ME SJTU engineering campus The “New Gate” at the new “Minhang Campus” where the School of Mechanical Engineering is located

D.L. Atkinson, ME Minhang Campus Classroom Buildings Engineering campus at Minhang Here are classroom buildings on the Minhang Campus, SJTU

D.L. Atkinson, ME Some details have just arrived: Purdue ME’s same/similar dorm—above shows exterior, a typical room, and a kitchen area.

D.L. Atkinson, ME Shanghai—Paris of the Orient The “Bund” is the “downtown” area along the river….

D.L. Atkinson, ME Shanghai also has history This is Yuyuan Garden built by the Pan family about 1560— Shanghai grew up around it.

D.L. Atkinson, ME And technology! Ride the Maglev from the airport to downtown…
