PAL SHM Raymar and Goran are spending the day at PhysicsWorld amusement park and are thinking of riding the SHM Monster, which consists of a car on a straight frictionless track attached to a large spring. The car is displaced and put into simple harmonic motion.  The car is pulled 10 meters from equilibrium before being released (call the release time, t=0). It takes 3.5 seconds to get back to the equilibrium position (which it shoots past and oscillates around). Write out its equation of motion.  How long will it take to get halfway back to the central position?  Find the maximum acceleration in g’s.

Consider SHM. When is the mass moving fastest? a)It is at the end (x m ) and acceleration is maximum (a m ) b)It is at the end (x m ) and acceleration is zero c)It is at the middle (x=0) and acceleration is maximum (a m ) d)It is at the middle (x=0) and acceleration is zero e)It is half way between the end and the middle and the acceleration is zero

Consider SHM. When does the mass have the most acceleration? a)It is at the end (x m ) and velocity is maximum (v m ) b)It is at the end (x m ) and velocity is zero c)It is at the middle (x=0) and velocity is maximum (v m ) d)It is at the middle (x=0) and velocity is zero e)It is half way between the end and the middle and the velocity is zero
