WHICH WAY and HOW FAR?

SCALE AND DIRECTION What is scale and direction?

How important is Scale and Direction? Yesterday and Today!

But, Wait a Minute! Why is this important to us? Helping yourself. Helping a friend.

Which Way and How Far? Lesson How to use scale to measure distance. How to identify direction. How to apply that knowledge to local maps and your atlas.

But what else do we have to do?!! 1.Pay attention in class. 2.Pass in class work and homework on time. 3.Work effectively with your partner and the class. 4.Have some fun!

What do you mean by HOMEWORK! A map of your own neighborhood using scale and direction. Assignment will be passed out on Wednesday

What about having a partner? Next week’s class in the Media Center. Today’s fun quiz.

Why is north usually at the top of the page? Because that is the way the globe is positioned. Because that is how map makers have always worked. Because that is the easiest way for a computer to draw an arrow.

Do all maps have to use a definite scale? No, scale is not very important and I have seen maps with no scale of miles. Yes, scale is so important it is used in all maps. No, some maps, because of what they show, cannot use a scale of miles.
