This week... Re-imagining church— Part 3: Leadership 3

5 cultural changes of the past 20 years... Like the change from navigating the roads to navigating the oceans

with creativity 6 navigating the seascape

We look at this Son and see the God who cannot be seen. We look at this Son and see God’s original purpose in everything created. For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels—everything started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment navigating the seascape

And when it comes to the church, he organizes and holds it together as a head does a body. He was supreme in the beginning, and, leading the resurrection parade, he is supreme in the end. From beginning to end he’s there, towering far above everything, everyone navigating the seascape

So spacious is he, so roomy, that everything of God finds its proper place in him without crowding. Not only that, but all the broken pieces of the universe—people and things, animals and atoms— get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, all because of his death, his blood that poured down from the cross. Colossians 1:15-20 (The Message) So spacious is he, so roomy, that everything of God finds its proper place in him without crowding. Not only that, but all the broken pieces of the universe—people and things, animals and atoms— get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, all because of his death, his blood that poured down from the cross. Colossians 1:15-20 (The Message) 9 navigating the seascape

Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness.”... And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion.” Genesis 1:26-28 Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness.”... And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion.” Genesis 1: navigating the seascape

12 navigating the seascape The way (1) we understand Jesus (sent by the Father in the power of the Spirit) leads us to (2) understand what God is up to in the world (mission), which leads in turn to (3) understand what the church should be doing to be in step with God.
